Captured this field of Indian Paintbrushes outside of Sulfur Springs, Texas with a Nikon camera and lens. This wildflower like Blue Bonnets covers East and North Texas landscapes.
The name of this flower is based on the legend of an Indian who wanted to paint a sunset. Frustrated that he could not produce any of the colors that matched the beauty of a sunset, he asked the Great Spirit for help.
The Chippewa Indians called the Indian Paintbrush "Grandmother's Hair" and used it for women's diseases and rheumatism (maybe because of the selenium content). The Navajos used these plants for medicinal purposes such as a contraceptive or to decrease the menstrual cycle
