Description
Fabulous two-tone tulip that goes by the name of Exotic Emperor, I capture this spring 2022 at the Dallas Arboretum, Dallas, Texas with a Nikon camera and lens....
A little bit about the Exotic Emperor Tulip:
Also called White Valley, it opens creamy ivory-white and matures to milky-white with yellow flames and exterior petals with emerald-green striations. The prized double sport of White Emperor discovered by Willem Vink some 20 years ago in a huge field, it was flagged with his bandanna so the flower would not be cut off the next morning. Unfortunately, the bandanna and the unique sport disappeared in the field. White Emperor bulbs from that field were not sold that year. They grew the entire field on, and the following spring, they were rewarded with two Exotic Emperors. It is a strong, robust variety that stands up well to spring rains and wind. It is often paired with Flaming Purissima at the Keukenhof and as a thick carpet under Fritillaria Rubra Maxima at Poldertuin Anna Paulowna. Double Early Tulips are known to be good for forcing.
