Description
Palo Duro Canyon State Park in Canyon, Texas is a mini various of the Grand Canyon. It's hot, muggy and deep below the Canyon plateau. No cell phones work in the bottom. Unlike the Grand Canyon, Texas allows visitors to drive down the mountain. It is a brilliant scene in the spring. The lime green brush contrasted with the red canyon dirt. I captured this image with my Nikon camera and lens in its natural setting.
The drive is over four hours from Richardson, Texas but this time flew by since it was my first out in over two months. I highly recommend the drive.
The canyon was formed by the Prairie Dog Town Fork Red River, which initially winds along the level surface of the Llano Estacado of West Texas, then suddenly and dramatically runs off the Caprock Escarpment. Water erosion over the millennia has shaped the canyon's geological formations.
